What we look at, and why
Most first visits last about an hour. Yours will be closer to two, because we would rather investigate than guess.
Smile and posture photos
How your jaw and body are working together, not just how your teeth look.
Detailed photos inside your mouth
Taken with cheek retractors so nothing stays hidden, and so you can see what we see.
Traditional X-rays
These reveal cavities and any bone loss from gum disease.
A 3D cone beam CT scan
This is the piece most offices do not have. It lets us see your airway, sinuses, and jaw joints, along with any hidden concerns around teeth, implants, old root canals, and past extraction sites.
Oral cancer and airway screening
Performed by your hygienist as part of every comprehensive exam.
Gum health measurements
Recorded tooth by tooth so we have a real baseline to work from.
Bite, wear, and existing work
Including an honest look at dental work you already have in your mouth.
Time with your care coordinator
Your medical history, your dental history, and what has been going on with your health.
Scan review with your doctor
We go through the images with you until you understand what you are looking at.
A personalized plan
It may include dental treatment, supplementation, nutrition guidance, and a clear timeline.
One heads up: there is no cleaning at this visit
That part is intentional, and it surprises people, so we want you to hear it from us first.
We take all of these measurements before any cleaning happens, because the measurements are what tell us which type of cleaning your gums actually need. Guessing first and measuring later is backwards. Your cleaning gets scheduled once we know.
How to get the most out of your two hours
- A list of your medications and supplements. Everything, including the ones you take occasionally.
- Your medical history. Chronic conditions, diagnoses, surgeries, and anything you have been chasing an answer on.
- Any recent records or X-rays from a previous dental office. Email them ahead if you can and we will have them ready.
- Your questions. All of them. This visit is built to have room for them, so please do not edit yourself down.
- About two hours of margin. Try not to schedule something tight on the other side of it.

A lot of the people who find us have a story about being dismissed, hurried through, or made to feel guilty in a dental chair. We know. It is part of why the appointment is built the way it is.
There is no judgment here, and we never move faster than you are comfortable with. You will not be handed a treatment plan you did not help build, and you will not be pushed into a decision on the day you hear about it.
Every one of our doctors has been personally trained by our founder, Dr. Michelle Jorgensen. Dr. Michelle no longer provides patient care. Your exam and treatment are provided by our associate doctors.
